April Session Spotlight

Photography is a unique craft and everyone has their niche.

I love wedding photography. It’s an honor to photograph a couple’s wedding. Knowing they’ll have these images to cherish as they hold on to those memories through the years. Shooting a wedding can be a stressful event, of course but it’s so rewarding all the hard work you put into it will show at the end. When I’m preparing to shoot a wedding I always arrive at least two hours before the ceremony. Normally, a wedding session will last around five to six hours. I’ll arrive with all my batteries charged, extra batteries for my flash if it’s allowed, extra SD cards pre-formatted, I’ll have all my lenses clean and sometimes I even pack some snacks into my camera bag cause you never know how busy you’re going to be.

I’ll always talk to my bride and groom before the wedding. I’m very easy to get along with and I am completely upfront about everything because I don’t want any kinks in their day. I want to make sure we’re vibing from the get go that way we’re on the same page. A lot can happen on a wedding day. It’s a very special and emotional day for two families. I’ve had cakes not be able to delivered or a cake get knocked over after it arrives - you never know what could happen.

My favorite thing to remind a bride is that it doesn’t matter what’s gonna happen, you’re gonna be married at the end of this and if that’s the only thing you can think of the whole day that’s all that matters. You’re going to get to marry the love of your life. Weddings are exciting and such a special day to be apart of. Families getting to see a bride in her wedding dress for the first time can be so overwhelming. It’s a day that brings out so much passion and love. I talk to my couples about what shots they want and what their expectations are. Sometimes my brides will even have a Pinterest board on their phone of shots they’re inspired by so I will have an idea of what their hoping to see. Even with planning it’s usually the unplanned special moments that warm my heart the most. One example is after the vows when their walking down the aisle it’s not uncommon for the groom to stop and kiss his wife again cause he couldn’t get enough kisses, it’s so special and it’s one of my favorites!

Once we’ve got the nerves calm I can go to work. I love detail shots! I look forward to ring shots at weddings, I love getting creative using their flowers, cakes, or boots in the shot. I have shots I try to get for every bride - their dress hanging, the bridesmaid dresses, the shoes, the bouquet, the jewelry, sometimes even their perfume bottles. Any detail shots or decorations around the venue the couple had made specific for the wedding. I want to capture all of the special things that they can look back on when they’re 80 and relive it. When I shoot a wedding and I deliver a CD to the couple I give it in order from start to finish so they can go through reliving their entire wedding from start to finish. Their day is going to be so hectic, they’re not going to see it how I saw it. I want them to see the whole thing and remember all the special moments. That’s something really important that I think about the whole time - if this were my wedding what are the things now that I may forget over time. I make sure I’m paying attention to those detail shots for them. Weddings do take a long time to edit. You’re gonna have these for the rest of your life and I want them to be perfect. Editing can be very tedious and time consuming so when you’re done you do a happy dance cause you’re so excited for them to see their photographs. I pour my heart and soul into weddings. From getting to know a bride and groom, to the planning, getting the shots and working my angles - it’s such a fun and rewarding experience from start to finish.

I’ve got my fingers crossed my next travel destination wedding will be Scotland! Thank you so much for checking out my blog! I plan on having a session spotlight like this once a month along with some additional surprises. Feel free to share my page and I look forward to hearing from you!
